Tropical

I always had such romantic notions of what tropical meant. Not anymore, now i know its hot and with no reprieve, you can sweat on your sweat.
Here we are in Darwin lovely caravan park with fab pool. Everyday the Greens are the first in at 8am and the last swimmer's out at 830pm.
We have done some tourist destinations, Mindel markets, the free water slide park, fish and chips at Stokes Wharf, Burnett house (1930's architectural delight with wonderful afternoon tea in the gardens).
We will be here till friday in case anyone missed the news my phone is lying in rice i missed everyone please call or text through steve 0414225887.
Have told steve i will never permanently reside in the tropics!

Litchfield Fun

Litchfield National Park is the wildest place we have been to so far. It is home to so many natural wonders, some of them you need a 4WD to access.
Today we went to Sandy Creek plunge pool. It was epic. To get there it is a mad 4WD track with 10m long puddles and corrugations on the road.
On the way we saw lots of termite mounds. Magnetic termite mounds always face south-north in the sun so the termites can keep cool. Cathederal termite mounds have radiator veins, and use the wind to keep cool.
It was a great day!

After four wonderful days of languishing at the thermal springs it's time to move on to Litchfield.

Little Lonely Mataranka

On Saturday we arrived in the little lonely town of Mataranka. I thought what could you possibly do here? Then wewent to the springs and I totally changed my mind, purely beautiful, I could spend my whole life there. It was so deep and lush, there was even an "algae slide". It was 100% natural.it was so nice floating down on pool noodles. Last night we were so tired I could barely lift my head. At the other spring in town it was not so natural. It was just like a pool. It was not as much fun either.

Just what the Doctor ordered

After a 3 days of being on the road we pulled up at Bitter Springs outside Mataranka. Boiling hot, crabby and exhausted. After setting up the caravan we walked down to the national park just down the road and were met with paradise. A natural spring that is so clear it looks like a sheet of glass. 5 very hot people slipped in to the water and soaked away all the heat and frustration. Being 6:30 at night we had the whole
place to ourselves. I expected to see some fairies come out, it was so magical. We lit the lantern and swam until hunger pulled us away.
Absolutely divine, the water is a constant 30 degrees so yesterday the kids swam all day so tired were they all last night Noo wailed as his taco broke "I hate taco's they are bad very bad". After spooning the rest in we managed to get them all in bed and they didn't even wake when a massive storm lashed the caravan last night for hours.

Driving

We are busy chewing up the kilometres it's not until you drive Australia that you realise it's bloody huge. Suddenly a 5 hour drive seems ordinary. The kids have been sensational with the big drives. Suddenly road houses are the most exciting destinations ever. The kids just got fanta slushy and they are in heaven. The cold of Uluru has passed, can't believe I was wearing my duck jacket 2 days ago because it's now so hot again.
Heading north to Katherine can't wait for Kakadu and Litchfield.
Love the pic of the kids yesterday. Apparently Wycliffe Wells is the UFO capital of Australia! I guess when there is nothing else going be on you just have to make stuff up!
Happy to report we saw no aliens except these two!

Miles' musings on Uluru

As we watched the sun go down we saw the most beautiful thing on earth, a rainbow stretching over the whole of Uluru.
It was a marvellous sight. The next day we went to the rock at sunrise there was a big puffy cloud nestled on top, it was like cream on top of an eclair.

Bloody big rock

Key Eloise=🍉
Claudia=☕️

Before we left Sydney my dad and I meet for coffee and discussed our route for the big trip. Dad questioned going to Uluru pointing out the following "all I'll say is it's a bloody long drive to see a bloody big rock"☕️

Mum was the first one to spot Uluru then she pointed it out to us and as we drove along it got bigger and bigger. It was like being in a book it didn't look real at all.🍉

We have been so lucky seeing the rock early morning with a perfect layer of thin cloud making it look like a finger bun covered in white icing.☕️

We we also saw on a magical occasion a rainbow arching over Uluru. Right at the last minute the clouds parted and for first time and (probably the last) we saw the sun on Uluru. 🍉

With a massive down pour we were also lucky enough to see huge waterfalls cascading down the rock face.☕️

Thank you so much letting us see you in all your glorious forms.🍉

A magical place of deep spiritual significance.☕️

Kings and Queens

We had our doubts that noo would make the 3 hour walk around Kings Canyon but with an epic amount of chocolate and non stop talking he made the whole thing. Steve chatted with him non stop and frankly I think having his dad's undivided attention and leading the conversation he would have walked another 3!
it was spectacular and we were lucky the weather was kind and not too hot.

''Eat the chicken nugget first''!

We just left the rest stop of hell, home to a rubbish loving Dingo that dad thought was a domestic dog and angry wasps that we dodged on our way to the car. Lucky we got out alive! Even if one of us had to get eaten we would probably put Angus the chicken nugget out. Yum yum yum, a perfect afternoon tea treat for our friend the Dingo!🍗

Happy hour

I half expected to see Julie Andrews appear sweeping through the meadows. So lush and vibrant is the landscape, after a spot of rain the wild flowers are unbelievable. It's only the red dust that gives away the real location. We found the most wonderful free camp site and hiked up the escarpment to watch the sun set. But a magic moment was killed by the screaming and crying. Miles insisted on getting as close to the edge of the ledge as possible as we shouted at him to get back.

Angus was crying he had burs that were so sharp they felt like razors, embedded into a good portion of his anatomy. As we set about removing the millions of painful burs from Angus, and at the same time shouting continuously at Miles, we enjoyed the view and comforted ourselves that we were providing the best form of contraceptive to the young couple who had also hiked up.
From sun down until sun up is happy hour, when there is a brief reprieve from the flies. They have to be experienced to be believed.

🍦☀️🍦☀️🍦☀️🍦☀️🍦☀️🍦☀️

We woke up early this morning, had a quick breakfast and started to pack up the caravan. We have had an amazing time here in Alice springs and I am sad to leave but we will be coming back through on our way back from Uluru and we might be able to stay for another night. We might be getting ice-cream again from the amazing ice-cream parlour Uncle Edy's again to, so fingers crossed!🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦

Camels, camels, camels!🐪

Just came back from our first ever camel ride on a camel called Doc and it was absolutely fantastic! When the camels get up they put their back legs up first and then their front legs so it is extremely bumpy. Mum and I went on an hour ride but it only felt like five minutes. lt was just as bumpy when we got down off the cameI. When we were safely off Doc we met an over excited puppy called Archie and sadly after that we went home! I am on top of the world right now and I have no more to say until my next blog,

West Mac Donnell Ranges

After our long, hot but lovely one and a half hour walk we tucked into a picnic of tuna rolls, chips and chocolate cake. After we went for a swim in the billabong and had an amazing time! On our way back and noo fell asleep in the car and I felt like sleeping to. I'm sure I will sleep well tonight, early bed time for me! Every one seems just as exhausted as I am and I'm maybe even a bit more.⛰

Finding Nemo

Back in civilisation after our great adventure at Cape Tribulation where we went on a snorkelling trip out to the Great Barrier Reef but this is what happened first. The Greens arrived at Cape Trib camping in the afternoon on Friday and we set up camp, had dinner and went to bed. The next day we went down a 4 wheel drive track to a water hole. When we came back we were nearly covered completely in mud so we washed off in the river that was running near the car. Next we went to a swimming billabong behind a general store and saw a turtle and an eel! It was so interesting.

The new day brought memories that would be treasured forever. After a long, bumpy boat ride to the reef we finally got into the water and started to snorkel. It was absolutely incredible all the coral, fish and we even saw a turtle eating a jellyfish! This turtle was massive but so kind and gentle. The way he glided through the water so smoothly was absolutely spectacular. Everyone was happy when we finally got back to the beach because it had been freezing cold in the water!

Northern Territory here we are!

We just arrived in N.T where the speed limit is a crazy 130km/hr! Sadly we will never make that speed pulling a 20 foot caravan. Alice Springs and Uluru here we come🇦🇺

Pink ribbons

We were not prepared for natural wonder of the Devils Marbles. They quite simply made us gasp.
We asked the kids not to climb them out of respect for the indigenous community. The boys were not sure about this but we explained you wouldn't jump on a war memorial or climb onto a grave. Then they began to understand.
I found it telling on my walk this morning that little pink marker ribbons denoted the paths around and through the marbles.

it made me wonder at our disconnect from the land that we needed these guides, we can no longer trust our instincts to guide us we can't read the natural signs and clues that surround us.
As I enjoyed the sun set and this morning the sun rise I paused to think of all the generations before me who have come to this magical, sacred place to meet and share.

Suck it up

So it's another week on the road with no air con. The mechanic tried their hardest to get our hose but it wasn't even dispatched. Not wanting to waste four days waiting we have ordered the part and will have it fixed in Alice Springs. So it's another week of hot driving and I'll just have to suck it up!!
feel like a city princess without my luxurys!

Oasis in the dessert

Heavenly. We turned off the main road onto a dirt track everything around us dry and the pervading red dirt then suddenly a green oasis like a mirage appears before us we have arrived at West Leichart station. With a healthy supply of bore water they have created a green haven around the station house planted with massive shade giving trees.
The property is home to some 6,000 head of cattle and its the first chance for the kids to see a working cattle station.
we experienced bush hospitality at its best there is a lovely little community of volunteers who help out with the mustering of the cattle and they couldn't have been more welcoming. We explored the property, picnicked at the most deligtful water hole and joined the gang at the communal fire for dessert cooked in the hot coals. The kids learnt the graceful art of cane toad killing (Angus is a natural born killer). Steve tried to blind himself by spraying cane toad poison into his eye (thankfully mum packed the saline eye wash)!
