Oasis in the dessert

Heavenly. We turned off the main road onto a dirt track everything around us dry and the pervading red dirt then suddenly a green oasis like a mirage appears before us we have arrived at West Leichart station. With a healthy supply of bore water they have created a green haven around the station house planted with massive shade giving trees.
The property is home to some 6,000 head of cattle and its the first chance for the kids to see a working cattle station.
we experienced bush hospitality at its best there is a lovely little community of volunteers who help out with the mustering of the cattle and they couldn't have been more welcoming. We explored the property, picnicked at the most deligtful water hole and joined the gang at the communal fire for dessert cooked in the hot coals. The kids learnt the graceful art of cane toad killing (Angus is a natural born killer). Steve tried to blind himself by spraying cane toad poison into his eye (thankfully mum packed the saline eye wash)!
